Skin Bleaching

Skin bleaching refer to the practice of using chemical substances to try and lighten the skin tone or provide an even skin complexion by lessening the concentration of melanin. Several chemicals have been shown to be effective in skin whitening, while some have proven to be toxic and harmful.

The two main chemicals found in skin lightening products is Hydroquinone and Mercury, which both chemicals inhibit the production of melanin in the skin. The less amount of melanin in the skin = the lighter it is. It damages the tissues within the skin and can result with patchy skin. Its said that skin bleaching can also cause kidney problem and, skin cancer especially in poorer countries where products have not been approved and tested.

On the product information such as Hydroquinone Skin Bleaching Topical, it states the side effects may include mild burning, stinging, redness, and dryness. To stop using if blistering, skin cracking, blue-black darkening of the skin, or if symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

People bleach their skin as its known all around the world that the lighter the skin, the more beautiful you are.  For example in Africa 8/10 women bleach their skin to be more beautiful, successful and more likely to find marriage. Men also take part in this skin alteration.
