Makeup artists Ve Neill and Joel Harlow, with key hair stylist Candace Neal, collaborated with Winston on the makeup design for these "damaged" robots. Subtle makeup designs for Gigolo Joe and David. "We did several tests on Gigolo Joe, some with full-face prosthetic devices," Neill explains. "But it looked too surrealistic. It didn't reflect Jude's warmth and friendliness, which Steven felt was very important to the role. We came up with a simple prosthetic jaw piece and a plasticized facial makeup flexible enough so that it wouldn't crack or melt during filming. "
She used airbrushing to apply the flawless makeup. Wax like shine had been include into the painting.
Before researching into the makeups for A.I i did not realise that prosthetic pieces had been used on Gigolo Jow and thought it was all just paint work. This proves that the piece was well made and the edges were thin. Also i would like to explore into the wax material that was included into the paint. I feel that the precise hairstyles resemble to appearance of a doll . I feel thatthe precise 'ideal' 'doll-like' appearance could be a possible direction for my designs instead of including mechanics.

to add to effect, lighting was flat backgrounds and props were bright and unmodulated primary colours costumes made from thin vacuformed tubes and sheets of urthane coated fabrics - shined and restricted movement.
These robots alter in appearance shown in A.I and Stepford wives, as they have more of a plastic appearance by being covered in prothetics. They have the colouring, shadows, highlights and feature shapes that would be produced within a drawing rather than being realistic. However they still show human aspects and therefore resemble toys. I like the idea of turning my model into a cartoon/toy version of themselfves. I could explore into the use of plastic materials and wax coating products. Also i found the hair pieces to be interesting and would like to learn how these could be made.

Again in this film, the robots are portrayed as being perfect and precise as it they were dolls. The include the 'ideal' image and been enhanced and influenced, especially by the 1950's housewive commericals.
The skin is flawless. with contouring, highlighting and shaping and the hairstyles are volumous and tend to include curls and accessories. This image of perfection is something that could be considered into my designs.
There is no prosthetic pieces on humans within the film I Robot, but I found the robots design interesting as it containing a very transluencent appearance. You are able to see the mechanics and metal structure underneath a clean, shiny, clear surface,
I feel that this idea of a smooth finish but the view of uneven technology pieces could be an interesting aspect to explore makeup designs. Pehaps a silicone piece that shows detailed sculpts of mechanics can then be over layed by a smooth silicone piece. Gelatine or silicone could be used as they both produce a translucent finish.
