Makeup Exploration
I decided to experiment with slver leaf as it produces a smooth, shiny and textured finish. It can act as an alternative makeup effect for the eyes, lips and brows and relates to metal and therefore cyborgs and robots. To adhere it to the face, pros-aide can be used and it will only be secured to the areas that was covered in glue, which enables clen, precise edges and allow the creation of shapes.
Lips
The silver leaf sculpted into the lines and creases of the lips, which gave it a natural appearance. The inside area of the lips were is was wet made it harder to stick to and after time, started to get rubbed away. Overall it produced a precise finish that had good shape and involved texture.
Eyebrows
Derma Shield was applied to protect the hairs then pros aide was into the brows (similiar to the method of blocking them out), then the silver leaf was applied. It was much harder to achieve a straight edge onthe brows as it was harder to see the application of glue. Again it picked up the texture from underneath to create a more natural appearance, however it did not pick up all the hair lines as i applied too many layers of silver leaf (as i was trying to get a straight line). Perhaps with a thinner layer it would resemble eyebrows more, but overall i thought it looked effective and less human.
I took a photograph of the lips and eyebrows together, I feel that this effect could be used within editorial/fashion work but feel it would look better if beauty makeup was also applied; contouring, eyeshadow, lashes etc. It could also be matched with a futuristic hair style, where either silver leaf or paint has been included.
Eyes
I had ago at applying it the eyelids, it was flexible and did not cause any discomfort or restriction in movement. It also moulded into the crease and made it more appearant as if eyeshow had been used. I felt that it matched well with the silver leaf brows and followed their shape. I then also applied some eyeliner to see the outcome. I felt this added definition to the shape but feel that without it gave a more natural appearance.
I then experimented with blocking out the eyebrow and recreating a shape using the silver leaf. As i used pors-aide to block the brows it meant that the silver leaf stuck to this area aswell as where i had applied a new area of glue, this meant that the shape went up abit higher than i would have liked but thought that it stil produced an interesting shaping.
As seen in teminator, cyborgs often show metal after the skin had been cut. I thought I would see what effect could be made by using silver leaf, however felt that it resembles the patterns of a zebra or animal. Although it did not achieve the look i intended, i still thought it looked interesting and perhaps could be suggested in future makeup work.
Conclusion
From experimenting with silver leaf I have been able to see that it can be used to create a shape on the skin. Therefore this material could be used forwithin many types of makeups. I found that it also picks up texture, which makes it look more natural and blend well into the skin. I feel that it could be used if creating a cyborg influenced makeup perhaps more in the direction of beauty, Further experimentation could include incorporating relating hairstyles or applying silver leaf to the hair, in order to create a final makeup look.
